China Spring Youth Camp’s wastewater treatment system needs to be improved to meet its permit standards and modern, more stringent treatment standards. Team 18 provides an in-depth analysis of the effectiveness of using algae for wastewater treatment at this site and a design implementing this kind of treatment. Algae treatment lagoons are easy to maintain, and the algae can be harvested for beneficial uses, adding value to the project. However, a cost assessment proved that algae harvesting methods are too expensive and inefficient for this project. The viability of alternatives was assessed to show that treatment using algae is the cheapest solution that will adequately meet modern treatment standards.
