Basque Cyberculture: from Digital Euskadi to CyberEuskalherria
Date
2003Type
BookDescription
The global telecommunications revolution poses one of the principal challenges to Basque culture in the new century. How will it survive homogenizing effects of globalization in cyberspace? Is it possible to transform Basque vernacular culture into a high-tech culture without losing its features? To answer these questions, we need to broaden our understanding of cyberculture to include the history of technology in the Basque Country, the present state of Basque culture, not just there, but in the Basque diaspora, and the future prospects for recreating a Basque vernacular culture in cyberspace. Basque Cyberculture explores possible futures in the new millennium by examining the resources available in the Basque culture, from the philosophy of technology to art and literature.
