Description | While educators have been working to teach introductory programming for between 40 and 50 years, the research has not supported either the value or the effectiveness of this endeavor. Recent research has found that teaching some thinking components along with the programming actions can provide positive results. A pilot study was conducted with college students learning a formalized and structured programming process in order to evaluate the efficacy of the process. Some positive, but limited, results were found from the study, although one of the interesting results discovered directly from students' responses is the need to further support this kind of activity. Preliminary results are reported, and opportunities for further study are identified. | |
