Abstract
This report details the full engineering design process of the automatic shoe cover built by team 7.
The entire process started with the problem identification; this entailed a design for a shoe cover
remover that was completely mechanical. This shoe cover remover has to be able to remove shoe
covers using the energy of a user without any form of electricity. After problem identification, the
team started the design process, this process mainly incorporated brainstorming conceptual design
entities, functional analysis, morphology, and function equations. After this original conceptual
design process was completed, three concepts were chosen. A meeting with our mentor Dr. Aureli
was scheduled in order to help finalize the process of choosing a final concept. Our mentor gave
us invaluable advice which lead us to the pedal-clamp mechanism for shoe cover removal. Once
the concept was chosen the process for modifying the design in order to better meet the customer
specifications was completed. This process was further explored in the upcoming semester and
more engineering analysis was prompted by the class. Further meetings with our mentor were
carried out in order to better complete the design before the building of the prototype. Finally, the
design turn out to be fast, easy and efficient accomplishing all the requirements.
