Gravity-driven instability in unsaturated fractures

The stability of infiltration flow into inclined, unsaturated fractures has been studied. An initially dry natural tuff fracture is used to demonstrate that gravity-driven instability is a separate process form heterogeneity induced channeling. Data was acquired through digital imaging techniques.
